Our Story

Welcome to Gemmolog Gems!

Our story began with Sebastian Haensel, an Austrian geologist, gemmologist, and lapidary artist who fell in love with colored gemstones during a geology lecture at the University of Graz in 1998. From that moment, Sebastian's passion for gemstones was ignited, and it has continued to grow ever since.

After obtaining a master's degree in geology, Sebastian enrolled in a gemstone cutting course and then pursued a diploma in gemmology in Linz, Austria. In 2004, he became a European Gemmologist (FEEG), and his journey in the world of gemstones had just begun.

Sebastian's thirst for knowledge led him to become a Laboratory Gemmologist at the Swiss Gemmological Institute in 2013. There, he gained invaluable scientific knowledge about the treatment of gemstones and origin determination. His curiosity then led him to explore inclusion photography and field gemmology.

Over the course of nearly seven years in the high-end gemstone industry, Sebastian had the opportunity to visit mining areas and gemstone markets worldwide. His travels and studies culminated in a second gemmology diploma from the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (FGA).

Finally, in 2022, after living in Bangkok for two years to set up a small gemstone laboratory, Sebastian returned to Austria and founded GEMMOLOG GEMS e.U. Today, we offer Sebastian's extensive gemmological knowledge and expertise to serve our clients' needs.
